This is the number one reason vehicle transport goes wrong in India. Someone gets three quotes — ₹8,000, ₹11,000, and ₹14,000 — and immediately books the ₹8,000 one. But here’s what they don’t realise: the ₹8,000 quote uses an open carrier, has no transit insurance, skips pre-loading inspection, and has hidden charges for fuel surcharge and toll that appear at delivery time.

Price alone is meaningless without understanding what the quote includes. A genuinely cheap vehicle transport quote is almost always cheap for a reason — and that reason usually becomes apparent only after something goes wrong with your vehicle.

This is perhaps the costliest mistake vehicle owners make. Transit insurance typically costs 1–3% of the vehicle’s declared value. For a ₹10 lakh car, that’s ₹10,000–₹30,000. Seems like a lot? Compare it to the cost of a single panel repair after an accident — which can easily run ₹50,000–₹2,00,000. Or worse, a total loss with no financial recourse whatsoever.

India’s highways — despite massive improvement in infrastructure — still carry real risks. Accidents happen. Extreme weather happens. Natural calamities happen. Without transit insurance, you have no financial protection when they do.

India’s vehicle transport market has thousands of operators — and a significant number of them are aggregators or middlemen who take your booking, outsource to an unknown carrier, collect an advance, and then become hard to reach when something goes wrong. What matters is independent, unmoderated, verifiable reviews — on Google Maps, Justdial, IndiaMart, or Sulekha. Look for a consistent pattern of reviews across 6–12 months, response to negative reviews, and specific details about punctuality, vehicle condition on delivery, and customer support quality.

You’ve handed over your car or bike worth ₹5–₹30 lakhs to a transport company. The vehicle has left your sight. And now you have no way of knowing where it is, whether it’s moving, or if it will arrive when promised. This is the situation you’re in if you book a company without GPS live tracking.

GPS tracking isn’t a luxury — it’s a basic transparency standard in 2026. Any professional, established vehicle transport company with its own fleet will have GPS-equipped trucks. Companies that don’t offer GPS tracking are typically outsourcing your vehicle to unknown, unverified carriers — which is an immediate red flag.

This one sounds obvious — but it happens constantly. A laptop bag left on the back seat. A dashcam still attached to the windshield. A spare tyre and tools in the boot. Medicines, documents, even cash left in the glove compartment. Vehicle transport service covers the vehicle only — not the contents inside it.

Transit insurance does not cover personal belongings left inside the vehicle. If your ₹80,000 laptop goes missing during transport, there is no recourse through the vehicle transport insurance. The liability falls entirely on you for leaving it there.

Someone calls you, promises a great rate, asks for a “booking advance” of ₹5,000–₹15,000 via UPI, and then either disappears entirely or shows up with a substandard carrier and demands more money on pickup day. Without a written contract or official booking confirmation, you have no legal recourse and no way to recover the advance.

Legitimate vehicle transport companies will always provide a written quotation, a booking confirmation with all service details, and a GST invoice. Any company that only communicates via phone calls and WhatsApp messages — with no formal paper trail — is a serious risk to your money and your vehicle.
